The ski’s the limit with HPB

The ski’s the limit with HPB

Peter and Helen Cousins are ‘passionate about skiing’.  Both retired bankers, the couple from London say “we love the European sites, especially Stigliano in Tuscany and Coreggia in Puglia, but for skiing you really can’t beat Viehhofen in Austria.  We go every year!”

Helen who first invested in HPB in the late eighties continues, “I started quite small, then together with Peter, we have built up our investment over the years, so now we have enough points to indulge in our passion and visit all the other wonderful locations.”

“The site at Viehhofen is superb” says Peter.  “Our friends have tried to persuade us to go to other ski resorts but there’s really no need, the skiing there is great, always fresh and challenging with a great snow record.  Why go anywhere else?”

“Our friends try to persuade us to go to other ski resorts, but Viehhofen has such great skiing …”

Over the past 15 years there has been enormous change and expansion in the Saalbach Valley, with the original Saalbach Hinterglem Leogang ski area being modernised and expanded.  The winter of 2015/16 saw the inclusion of Fiederbrunn to create an area of 270 square metres.  More recently, at the start of the 2019/20 season, Viehhofen got its own ski lift, connecting it to Zell am See and by ski bus to Kaprun, bringing the total to 408 kilometres with more than 120 lifts.  “They are always investing in the infrastructure with upgraded lifts and extensive snowmaking capability.  And now Kaprun is accessible you can ski on one of Austria’s high glaciers with a challenging black run known as the ‘Black Mamba’ which is both tortuous and deadly - probably not for Bondholders though!” adds Peter, who although retired works in the charity sector and is the chairman of an orchestra.

“One of the other attractions about Austria” says Helen, “are the small local mountain restaurants and traditional villages.  They’re full of character and the people are so warm and friendly.”

So where next?  “Well actually we’re planning to discover the delights of the UK next, with a visit to St Brides in Pembrokeshire to enjoy the coastal scenery.  Then it’s back to the slopes of course!”
